Grendel's Cave 3.0

Version 3.0 is retired

New User Interfaces

I added new text only and MUD style user interfaces. You can select either user interface, in-game, by typing change ui to text or change ui to command and clicking on yourself. When in either of these modes you can type help and hit enter to see a list of valid commands.

You can also change your default UI by logging into your account and going to the account change page by clicking on the change button. On this page, you will see a select field to pick which UI you prefer. Pick your interface, and if you pick text or command you can select a few other options for color and other display preferences. When you are done, click on the change button.

Text only interface is similar to the existing graphics interface only with no graphics. You select from the select lists, type into the text field and click on words instead of pictures. The game operates the same.

Command, or MUD, interface is a command line version of the game. You type everything you want to do into the command line at the bottom of the page and hit enter. The game executes your command and displays a new page based on the results of your command.

Either of these new interfaces may be more suited for tablet, phone or console play, especially if you have voice recognition on, for VI gamers or simply for those who prefer text only or MUD style games.

Tribe Wars!

I designed this version of the game to encourage tribe conflict and wars. You could immediately enter the PK kingdoms from thane creation or reset. I added new private Tribe rooms that only members of each tribe can enter. The cost to use the room is one life per day, but if you already have your own private room then the tribe room is free. The game awarded tribes points based on the wins of the members of the tribe. See the list below for how points were awarded. I added a Tribe Ranking page that you can get to from the home page.

Reduced Reset Costs

I greatly reduced the cost to reset thanes, to encourage moving high quality and significant thanes into the PK kingdoms and encourage tribe and PK play

Prize of 250 Lives, Ugly T-Shirts and Hall Of Fame Version Winner

Tribes competed for 250 lives, divided amongst the members of the winning tribe, for ranking as the Tribe version winner and for an ugly T-Shirt for each player in the winning tribe. The God Force tribe won and the sole member of the tribe, King Fire, received the prizes.

I posted the individual thane at the top of the Thane Ranking page at the end of the version on the Hall Of Fame. The winner was King Fire.

Kingdom Types

There were four kingdom types, Kind, Unglingur, Grimmur and Spioll. The following is information on each kingdom type.

The Kind Kingdom was the beginnerís kingdom for leaning the game.
You could complete quests, to learn them, but you could not kill Grendel.
You could sail on to the non-PK, intermediate, Unglingur kingdom with your stuff to try to kill Grendel there.

Unglingur Kingdoms were practice non-PK intermediate kingdoms.
You could kill Grendel.
Once you were done practicing Grendel's Cave in Unglingur kingdoms you could sail, with a significant loss of stats, abilities and items, into full-PK, free-for-all and grown-up Grimmur and Spioll kingdoms.

Grimmur Kingdoms were tournament fierce chaotic kingdoms that were PK and difficult. Your tribe got points for turning in amulets, killing Grendel, Grendel's Mother and the Dragon. After someone killed the current Grimmur kingdom, a new one spawned. You could sail into the new Grimmur or any Spioll kingdom with about a 25% loss of stats, abilities and items.

Spioll (Text only) Kingdoms were tournament fierce chaotic kingdoms that were PK and difficult. Your tribe got points for turning in amulets, killing Grendel, Grendel's Mother and the Dragon. After someone killed the current Spioll kingdom, a new one spawned. You could sail into the new Spioll or any Grimmur kingdom with about a 25% loss of stats, abilities and items. To play in the Spioll kingdom you had to play either text only or in MUD, command line, mode.

Active World Reset

On Friday, August 28, 2015, I created a new set, or World, of kingdoms, Kind, Unglingur, Grimmur and Spioll used it for tribe and thane ranking. All players that wished to play for tribe or thane rank had to start over in World 3.0.

I closed all Thrall kingdoms.

I closed all retired worlds before version 2.9.

I closed all v2.9 Jarl, Viking and Einherjar kingdoms.

I kept open v2.9 Karl and Odal kingdoms.

Hall of Fame

You had to slay Grendel in a Grimmur or Spioll kingdom for me to add your thane to the Hall of Fame. I added the top-ranked tribe name and members to the Hall of Fame at the end of the version. I added the top-ranked thane to the Hall of Fame as version 3.0 winner, at the end of the version.
